Home made gyros with juicy tzatziki sauce

For our beloved Balkan alaminute you do not have to go to Greece. Make yourself a gyros at home, making sure you taste it with a perfect sauce.


For the tzatziki sauce:

450 ml yoghurt
½ cucumber
2 to 3 hours of garlic
1 teaspoon of wine vinegar
some lemon juice
olive oil

For chicken:

1 piece of chicken from about 500 – 600 g
2 tablespoons of wine vinegar
2 tablespoons of olive oil
2 tablespoons of yoghurt
1 teaspoon oregano
4 cloves of garlic
lemon juice
salt, pepper
grated red onion


To prepare the tins, put the yogurt in a gauze on the bowl, allow it to stand for several hours (or, if possible, at night) to drain the excess liquid. Peel and grate the cucumber. Put it in a cloth and press to drain excess water. Mix yogurt, cucumber, crushed garlic, and dried ingredients. Add the lemon juice to taste, sprinkle with olive oil and leave it in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving.


To prepare the chicken in a separate container, mix the chicken with crushed garlic, lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, yoghurt, marjoram, salt and pepper. Mix well, let chicken pieces marinate for about 1 hour. Then cook the chicken on the grill or in the oven. Allow the cooked meat to cool for 5 minutes and then cut into strips. Heat the cake, smear with some olive oil, then fill them with chicken, tassel sauce, chopped tomatoes and red onion.

Serve your aromatic gyros immediately!
